Flower Garden 2020 -

Pictures of my Flower Garden for 2020

When the Covid-19 Pandemic arrived, I knew I needed to keep busy.
I looked around for things that have been sitting around here and needed to be done.
Then I looked at my garden paths that I have been procrastinating for years and that's what I did.
By the end of the first month I thought I couldn't do it.
However, it was either "now or never".
So, I persevered and I finished shovelling 24 cubic yards of pea gravel in about 2 months.
I did convince two family members to help me, but it didn't take long for them to have things that needed to be done that have been ignored for years and it just couldn't wait until the gravel was done. Do they think I don't know the real reason? :)

New for this Year - 2020:
Finished filling in my garden paths with pea gravel.
That's about it.
Some flowers came and some went and I didn't even noticed. :)
Oh yes! A new to me garden bench.

finishing my garden paths

Gravel Paths

At first when the hot weather arrived, I thought "I can't finish this", but I persevered and I'm glad I did.

It took me almost two months and 24 cubic yards of pea gravel later.

I was determined and I did it and I am so proud of myself. :)

I just stayed focussed and I couldn't be talked out of it, even though every single muscle in my body hurt. It was a good hurt. I think.

It helps when you have your Mom cheering you on. :)
The other two family members? They just hid. :)

my pea gravel paths are done

Pea Gravel paths:

I am glad my paths are done and I will never do this again.
It wasn't too bad during the cool days, but when it got over 100*F. - it was time to stop.
I just got up earlier and went out earlier. Some days even before my neighbours went to work.

I have been asked "why pea gravel?".
Durability - I guess. I don't ever want to do this again. I don't have problems with snails and slugs either. I wonder if they don't like the gravel.

Lupins

The Year of the Lupins

I was so busy with gravel, that by the time I noticed the Lupins, some of them were already going to seed.
They were beautiful and so many of them.
What a sensational blessing!
This year ( 2021 ) I will definitely spend more time paying attention to the beauty around me.

Sunflowers

Sunflower - Butterfly

I didn't sow these sunflowers, but the Critters thought since I was too busy to plant them a garden, they decided to sow their own.
They were right! I love sunflowers in the garden, but this year I just didn't get to it.

The insects loved the extra food. Lots of dragonflies and butterflies. Even the hummingbirds enjoyed the extra treat. :)

Iris borer

Iris Borer

When my Irises start turning yellow and wilted, I know it's time to go and take a look.

Even if the borer ate most of the rhyzome, you might be able to save some of it.

my first topiary

My first Topiary

Don't laugh! :)
This was suppose to be a chicken and it looks more like a fluffy duck.

Next year I will give my duck a chicken haircut.
At least tweak it a little bit.

new bench to me

New Bench to me

My daughter was throwing out this bench.
I used the power washer on it.
Let it dry, stained it and now I have a bench for me to sit on and think.

Hydrangea trained as a tree

Pee-Wee Hydrangea

I am trying to grow this hydrangea as a standard.

Don't know how long that is going to take, but this is the first year.
Eventually I am hoping for a little tree covered in blooms.

sit a while and thank you

Thank you!

Stay Safe everyone and I will see you all next year!
