Fruit Pictures - 2019 - Backyard Fruit Gardening -

Pictures of my Fruit Garden for 2019:

Last time I documented my gardening journey, was 2016.
It's time to start again and I hope you enjoy it.

New stuff for this year:
My Red Grapevine bloomed.
The grapes were large and shinny and then one day they were gone.

Surprises this year:
My red grapes. That was exciting.

Disappointments this year:
I lost one of my apple trees.
I think the tree had "fire blight" and I couldn't bring it back.

As for the fruit harvest:
I did harvest a lot of berries and pears this year. The Asian pear did surprise me with the amount of pears it produced in just one year.
As for the soft fruits, I had so many that I shared with the wild life.
Of course they were there before I was and that was my clue that I needed to "net" my fruits.

Fruit Garden - 2019

This year the Queen of our Backyard Fruit Garden was the Raspberries.
I had so many Raspberries that I made Raspberry syrup, because we couldn't eat them fast enough.
I made the syrup to go over pancakes and french toast, but we like it better over icecream. :)
The thornless blackberry plant did well too, but they were so tart, that even the birds didn't want any.

red currants

Red & Black Currants:

I love currants, but the red currant seeds are something else. I think they're harder to chew than Raspberry Seeds.
I also have Black Currants and I can tolerate those a lot better than red currants.
Currants are full of antioxidants and blueberries are really fussy for me to grow.
So for now, the currants will stay. :)

cantaloupe - freeze for juice and smoothies

Cantaloupe

I love growing cantaloupe. It's full of nutrients, especially potassium. It freezes well to go in fruit salads, juice or smoothies. Cantaloupe has more potassium and less calories than bananas.
I also grown honeydew melon, but not this year.

Watermelons - 2019

These watermelons are growing in gravel. Some Kritter dropped the seeds there and I left it.
They did better than I did. The watermelons that I grew, they were not that big.
I like sitting outside and eating watermelons on a hot day. I also freeze chunks of watermelon and juice them during the winter months. They would make good smoothies except for the seeds.

red grapes and raccoons

Red Grapes - 2019

My Red Grapes came from my Mom's house and I was thrilled that it finally was producing something. Then one morning, it was all gone. At least I had a taste, before it was all eaten by the raccoons.

Asian Pears, Bartelet and Anjou

Pears

The best surprise on the pears was the Asian Pears.
I had to thin it out a couple of times, because of the number of pears per fruit spur. They are very juicy and they made a lot of juice.
I also have a 4 in 1 Pear tree.
It produced some Anjou and Bartelet Pears, but not that many.

4 in 1 apple tree granny smith

4 in 1 Apple Tree

This little tree only had 2 Granny Smith apples this year, but they were huge for a Granny Smith apple.
Brucethebuilder loved them. :)
