Subject: Driftwood Candles Craft
If your lucky enough to find a fairly large piece of driftwood, here is an idea to try.
I make table centerpieces or floor accent pieces complete with candles out of them.
First you will need the driftwood...
enough sand to bury the piece, candle wax, wick, scent if you choose, and I often use bits of shells and sand dollars that I have collected.
You bury the driftwood in the sand and hollow out the spot where you want you candle to rest, the shape of the hole in the sand will be the shape of your candle...make sure you have exposed some of the driftwood for the wax to adhere to.
I use the small shells by pressing them into the sand walls of the hole keeping in mind the part you press into the sand will face outward from your candle.
Next anchor your wick to the driftwood ( I use a metal tack as it will not be visable) and pour your candle ( if your making a larger candle you may wish to let it cool and repour to fill in should it shrink in on itself).
After the candle has set, I careful start removing the sand to leave the driftwood with attached candle, the candle will have some sand embedded in it which adds to the look.
I finish the piece by adding a little drape of fishing netting...or more shells, sand dollars, whatever I may have collected on the beach.
These really make wonderful pieces and you can even make them with rather small pieces of driftwood for accenting a bathroom or smaller space.
If you try these I hope you find them as much fun and as wonderful as I do.
Happy Crafting.
