In my next life, that's what I want to do for a living.
I love landscaping and I go at it like I know what I'm doing.
First I design it all on paper, then I go to the garden and discover that I left it all in the house.
Last year in a hot, hot summer week, I did this patio.
Husband figured out how many square feet the area was and how many patio stones I needed.
Then we went to pick up the patio stones.
I looked at the pallet of stones in the yard and I thought "I have to count how many of those and put how many of them on the trailer?"
So, I asked "if I payed for the stones that I needed would he give me the whole pallet?" Man remove his sunglasses and said "yes!". I couldn't believe it. I just got something for free.
Then there was a problem. Those extra stones were overloading the trailer, but I couldn't turn down a freebie and "Man!" I couldn't stand there and move all of those stones in 90 degree weather.
So, we drove home very ----very---- slowly, thinking to myself, "next time I'll only take what I need."
With just my luck the husband did his math right too, because now I've a whole bunch of stones left over and no room for them. :)
Na! a freebie? I can always make room for.
I just stacked them at the edge of the patio and used them to display my kids' rock collection. :)
-first I flattened the soil. Walked on it, asked the husband and the kids to walk on it. My way of tampering. :)
-laid down and pinned some construction landscaping cloth.
-carried over the stones
-for a spacer I used a 2x4.
-all of the stones are down.
-look at all my beautiful freebies!
-time for the 3/8" pea gravel
-I raked it around for a couple of days and then removed the extra gravel.
-done!
-the extra patio stones; I stacked them on the edge of the patio, where I proudly display my kids' rock collection. :)
-this is a year later and I'm still enjoying my patio.
