Homes-n-gardens and backyard friends

-my backyard critters:
Until a few years ago I had no idea how much fun it was to watch and identify my backyard friends.

We only have squirrels, raccoons and birds, although, one year we did have a skunk, groundhog and a deer. The deer was certainly a surprise, since I live in the suburbs with a 6' fence all around. He had no problem clearing my fence or my neighbour’s fence though.

As for birds; we see our first robin in early spring, most of the time the ground is still frozen, so, I have no clue what they eat then. Soon after that, the other birds start arriving and they're sure hungry.

At the end of September most of my birds start packing their bags to go south and that's one time of the year I wish I was a bird too.

Every year I'm on the lookout for new birds at our feeders. This year (2007) we had starlings. Some people think of them as nuisance birds but at my home they're new birds. :)

During the winter months, I only have squirrels, raccoons, sparrows and very few mourning doves, but there's always next year.
Another bird I don't see many of at my house, are hummingbirds, but there's always next year for hummers too.

As for the squirrels and the raccoons; I do wish they would lose my home address, but then again I wouldn't have anything to complain about. :)
